Luke 12:27 Consider the lilies, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all His glory clothed himself like one of these.
Our Heavenly Father has created natural beauties that continue to astound me. The mountain spider lily was unknown to me until I discovered one at Lowe’s in 2002. I remember the year so clearly, because my dad was still alive and I couldn’t wait to share my find with him. I only bought one plant and was unsure how it would thrive on our property in Conway. It reminded me a bit of the red spider lilies that come up in September in the South with just a tall stem, bloom, and then produce leaves. I’d had some of those, but when I tried to move them to Conway, I lost them, probably to moles!
The mountain spider lily has an intricate petal structure similar to the spider lilies I’d known, but instead of growing from a bulb, it produces seeds as the flowers pass away. I was thrilled when I saw the seeds and I carefully collected as many as I could. The Lord blessed my efforts that first year. Since then, I have been able to sow these treasures every year and share them with friends. Time has flown. I realize I have been doing this for thirteen years. Whenever the first blossoms appear, I feel that God has shared anew a piece of His creation with me, and I give thanks.
The beauty of this flower warms my heart as much as the appearance of a hummingbird each spring. If anyone doubts the existence of God, I beg them to observe this beautiful world of flora and fauna. Welcome to God’s world! He shares His creation everyday if we but spend the time to look around and breathe it in afresh. How blessed we are!
