Matthew 21:16 “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, ‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise?'”

Last Saturday I met a young woman and her daughter for a Christmas lunch. We’d become acquainted earlier in the year as I helped the mother prepare for the GED test. She was in a rehab facility after serving time in prison and was looking forward to being reunited with her daughter. We met twice a week for about three months. I’d last seen her in mid May but we’d kept in touch. So Saturday was a big day for both of us.

As we sat and chatted, the five year old was fairly subdued since she had never spent time with me before this. She listened to our conversation and chimed in with little comments whenever she could. She was a normal, bubbly child filled with the excitement of the Christmas season although a bit reserved, quite understandably.

Our conversation turned to preparations for Christmas. Suddenly the little girl broke in with “Christmas is all about love!” The mom and I shared a big smile and agreed with her. Yes, it’s not about the gifts or decorations or Santa Claus or Rudolph. It’s about the love God gave to us on that first Christmas so very long ago. The Christ child, born in a manger, Emmanuel {God with us), the Messiah, our Savior to be! Praise His Holy Name! Truly “out of the mouths of babes!”
