Deuteronomy 4:19 (KJV) And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars , even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

As I prepared to write my post for today, I thought I was being led by the Holy Spirit to comment on the danger of following astrology, particularly horoscopes. Instead, I was led to the above referenced verse from Deuteronomy. It applies to astrological signs also, but it convicted me regarding the present interest in blood moons and other heavenly phenomena. People are looking for signs of the end times (eschatology). I am not able to fathom this interest. I worship the One and Only, the Alpha and Omega, God Almighty. When questioned about the second coming of Christ, Jesus himself remarked, “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36) Why then do we look to the heavens for a sign? Our faith needs to be focused on God. He is in control. Therefore, it is not for us to worry concerning this. In verse 42, Christ reminded us to “keep watch” or be prepared. We are to be good and faithful servants on the alert always, fulfilling His command to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,” as well as His commission “to go into to all the world and make disciples.” (Matthew 22:37 and Matthew 28:19) Focusing on heavenly signs is a waste of time and energy, taking us away from the tasks Christ set before us.
